Trés Shannon who started Voodoo Doughnut was playing music in clubs around the same time as Nirvana under the name “Kurtz Project” which I think is, among other things, a play on the name Kurt and the German word for “short” – as in, electrical shorts, or a person who is expected to have a short life.

January 6, 1989 Nirvana opened for Mudhoney at Satyricon.
Kurtz Project played on January 25.
