Napalm Beach - Teen Dream - MP3 album

Out-of-print since 1986, Napalm Beach’s debut LP “Teen Dream” is now available for digital download from CD Baby. $7.75 for 11-song full-album download.

Released on cassette in 1985, Teen Dream became Napalm Beach’s first (self-titled) LP in 1986. The album was recorded on 24-track tape at Seattle’s Triangle Studios, shortly before the studio became Reciprocal Recording, where Seattle’s groundbreaking grunge-era albums would be made. Napalm Beach recorded and mixed this album in just two days, then self-released, and self-distributed it. The album and cassette became popular throughout the 1980s west coast underground. Teen Dream has been out-of-print since its initial vinyl run, and available now for the first time on MP3. This high-quality vinyl transfer is arranged in the original (cassette) song order.

Boo Frog “Sky Is High” to Appear on Sky Saxon Tribute Album

“Sky Is High,” Boo Frog’s tribute to Chris’s teen idol, Sky Saxon, has been selected to appear on the upcoming Sky Sunlight Saxon Tribute Album, alongside the likes of Davy Jones, Mike Watt, Tesco Vee, Clem Burke, The Germs, various members of Sky’s bands, Electric Prunes, Chocolate Watchband, Strawberry Alarm Clock, Kim Fowley, Hawkwind, George Jones, and Iggy Pop!

“Sky Is High” also appears on Boo Frog’s second album, Better Than The Rest, to be released later this month as a limited, 100 CD run.

We are grateful to Sky’s widow, Sabrina Saxon for creating this project, and for featuring our tribute to Sky along with those of so many legendary artists.

Boo Frog recorded our second album, “Better Than The Rest,” at Smegma Studios earlier this week. We recorded eleven songs on 16-track tape. (We’ll be mixing it next month.) Tonight we’ll be at Duckett’s with Oblivion Seekers and Molly Bolt.

Skullman Records and Flying Heart Records are working together to make a fuller catalog of Napalm Beach and Snow Bud and the Flower People music available for internet streaming and on-demand radio play, starting with Last.fm. Last.fm users can now enjoy full-length streams from Napalm Beach’s Fire Air and Water and Chris Newman’s Volunteer.

Fire Air and Water was recorded in Düsseldorf, Germany during Napalm Beach’s first European tour, November 1989, at Peter Krick’s Skyline Studios. The band had just returned from Berlin, where the Wall was coming down. This album features Chris Newman on guitar, keys, vocals; Sam Henry on drums and keys; Dave Dillinger, bass and is available on amazon.com

Chris Newman - Volunteer - 1994

Volunteer was recorded in 1994, with Chris on guitar, bass, keyboards, vocals, and Lance Paden (Snow Bud and the Flower People) on drums. Different versions of some of the songs had been recorded previously by Napalm Beach on Rock & Roll Hell and Greg Sage’s Trap Sampler, both of which had only come out on cassette and Chris thought had been lost forever. “Dr. J” was on the Pugsley cassette, and also re-recorded for this album. “Unclean,” “Onward,” “Mr. Gus,” “The First Time,” and “Big Black Car” were all brand new songs. Jeff Larson has named Volunteer as one of his favorite Chris Newman albums, and the best place to buy it is from Jeff’s store, Sonic Recollections.

Rock & Roll Hell: 19 classic Napalm Beach songs produced and engineered by Greg Sage of the Wipers in 1983 and originally released on cassette. The first half of the album was recorded in an unfinished house in Estacada, Oregon; the second half is taken from early live performances.
